My name is John Huntinghouse. I currently work at LDS Hospital as a genetic researcher in the Cardiovascular
Research Department. I have a lovely wife Kara, who is my best friend and my closest confidant. We have a
beautiful one year old daughter named Maya. She is the center of our attention (literally, you should see the mess she
can get herself into already).
I have been actively involved in politics ever since I ran with my friend
Matt Bunkall for 5th grade class President and Vice-President. We won overwhelmingly by a vote of 42-12 (ok, I
can't remember the exact number but we won nonetheless). The past couple of years I have been increasingly
irritated by some of the decisions made by certain lawmakers. So enough was enough; I decided to get more
actively involved in politics, supporting those who held the same principles and philosophy as I did. I started by just
making phone calls and spreading the word to my friends and family for various campaigns throughout the valley. Last
year I was hired on to help Bill Dew with his election campaign for U.S. Congress against Jim Matheson and learned a great
deal about the political process through that experience.
It was at this point in
time where I specifically looked at the representation that District 33 had. Neil Hendrickson is a fine,
upstanding man. I knew his son quite well back in elementary school. However, I found his stance (or
lack thereof) on various issues, increasingly in contrast with the views that I held as a conservative
Utahn. I also was somewhat disappointed at the lack of communication that resided between the constituents that he supposedly
represented and himself. What made me even more frustrated was the lack of real competition for that seat
put up by the Republicans. That's when I decided that I needed to run for this office. To give a real
challenge to those views that are currently held by Representative Hendrickson. I also wanted to
allow a forum where the average citizen that lives in District 33 could express their views, regardless
of party affiliation and actually have an impact on the representative that supposedly was representing them. I
want to increase the accessibility of the representative to the people whom he or she serves. I want
to give a voice to those who haven't had one for over a decade and a half. I want all these things because this
is what I want as a citizen of District 33, and this is the type of representative I will be if elected. This is why
I am running and this is why I am asking for your help in bringing this new message to all those who live in District
33. Thank you for all of your support.
Sincerely,
John Huntinghouse
